Salary: $67,144 to $105,334 annually ($35.62 to $55.88 hourly)
(Educational Supplement: Masters $1.60/hour; PhD $3.19/hour)

As a Household Pest Control Instructor at Assiniboine College, you will design, deliver, and evaluate curriculum that reflects current industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in integrated pest management. You will create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that support diverse learners while using innovative teaching strategies and educational technologies to promote accessibility, critical thinking, and the safe application of pest control principles. Through classroom, laboratory, and practical instruction, you will help students develop the technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and professional competencies required for success in the field. Beyond the classroom, you will contribute to program planning and continuous improvement, support student success through advising and mentorship, and build relationships with industry partners to ensure program relevance, all within a college committed to equity, sustainability, and innovation.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspire and engage learners by sharing your expertise in household pest control and integrated pest management, creating dynamic classroom and hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for employment in the industry.
  • Design, develop, and deliver curriculum and learning resources that reflect current industry standards, regulatory requirements, safe pesticide handling practices, and the needs of diverse learners in a community-based learning environment.
  • Assess student performance through practical and theoretical evaluations, provide timely and constructive feedback, and offer academic guidance and mentorship to support student success and career readiness.
  • Leverage educational technologies and the College's learning management system (LMS) to deliver accessible, interactive, and student-centred learning while supporting students in an on-site community-based program.
  • Foster positive relationships with the Sandy Bay First Nation community, colleagues, and industry partners to support student success, strengthen community engagement, and ensure training aligns with workforce and community needs.
  • Model professionalism and uphold College values, including safety, respect, equity, sustainability, Indigenization, and innovation through teaching, student advising, and active participation in College and community initiatives.
  
Qualifications:
  • Certification or licensing relevant to household pest control in accordance with provincial regulatory requirements, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and significant industry experience.
  • Significant industry experience in household pest control, integrated pest management, pesticide safety, pest identification, inspection techniques, and the safe and effective application of pest control methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, and environmental best practices related to pest management.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or delivering community-based training is considered an asset.
  • Experience teaching or facilitating learning in an adult education environment is highly desirable.
