Position Overview:
The Construction Superintendent supports the planning, coordination, and execution of capital construction projects, working with internal teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure work is completed safely, on time, on budget, and in compliance with contracts, design standards, and regulations. The role provides professional on-site representation and leadership through construction, commissioning, and occupancy phases.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Director and/or Project Manager during project planning and design development.
  • Prepare, issue, and coordinate tenders for construction services; review and evaluate bids and recommend award decisions to the Director.
  • Maintain accurate and current project records, including daily logs, incident reports, observations, deficiency lists, as-builts, and other site correspondence
  • Review and verify documentation for consistency, compliance, and completeness.
  • Assist with maintaining project budgets, cashflows, cost-tracking, and schedule reporting.
  • Act as a primary site contact for contractors to identify and implement cost-effective and time-efficient construction solutions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure work is performed in accordance with construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Effectively communicate construction activities, risks, impacts, and scheduling updates to stakeholders.
  • Maintain professional relationships with consultants, contractors, trades, and College personnel.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills while managing multiple concurrent priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive or contractual information.
  • Anticipate actual and potential risks and proactively mitigate exposure to the College.
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of institutional, industrial, or commercial building construction methods, building systems, materials, and specifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.
  • Effective leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and respond to unexpected challenges calmly and effectively.
  • Minimum 10+ years of practical experience as a construction supervisor/superintendent within the industrial, commercial, or institutional sector.
  • Experience delivering projects from inception to completion.
