Position Overview:
This will be a 1.0 FTE Research Assistant Level 1, who will be based out of Minto at the Rourke Farm and work with the Faculty Researcher on two S-CAP funded projects. This position will support the execution of both projects which includes organizing, helping with seeding, maintaining field trials, growth chamber projects, and exploring different types of seed coatings. The RA will be responsible for compiling data, ensuring equipment is kept in working order, assisting with data analysis, troubleshooting the project, report and manuscript preparation. This position will be expected to attend meetings and conferences and will liaise/work with industry partners for the project. The RA will also train, mentor and supervise summer students and work with the other Research Assistant.
Experience needed: Strong Chemistry background, interest/experience in conducting applied research, computer software, seed coatings such as testing polymers and natural substances,
Some Key Responsibilities:
- Setup and maintain research projects as per provided protocols and researcher oversight
- Collect research data using a variety of data gathering techniques
- Able to analyze, summarize and report factual information.
- Assist in preparing reports, presentations and extension materials
- Manage and maintain experiments
- Care for research materials
- Attend and participate in project meetings
Some Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented
- Maintain the highest standards of accuracy in both written and practical work
- Knowledge of agriculture and/or horticulture
- Able to work independently or part of a team
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage several tasks in the day
- Flexibility and adaptability
