On July 31st, 2015, Lieutenant-Colonel John Cochrane took over as the new Base Commander for CFB Shilo. He would like to take this opportunity to personally meet with Brandon’s business community and answer any questions you may have about CFB Shilo.
Lieutenant Colonel John Cochrane was born in Toronto, Ontario and received his commission as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1995. He has had the opportunity to participate on a variety of foreign and domestic deployments including Bosnia in 1997, Afghanistan in 2004 and 2009. In addition, he has participated in a number of domestic deployments to Manitoba for the Red River floods in 1998, the BC forest fires in 2003, and once again Manitoba for floods in 2011. He is married to Kate and has two children who keep him occupied at the hockey rink in his spare time.
Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Shilo has been the site of military activity in the region since 1910.
The training area of CFB Shilo covers almost 40,000 hectares, an area approximately 15 km by 30 km. Its mission is to enable success of training, operations and force generation activities by providing premiere training venues and the professional delivery of comprehensive support to lodger units and dependencies.
