Friday Coffee @ the Chamber

Stop by the Chamber office every Friday for Coffee sponsored by Tim Hortons. Great coffee, great snacks, and great conversation.

Join us to speak with special guest: Chris Gunning, new US Consul and Principal Officer at the US Consulate in Winnipeg. His role is to explain the interests and goals of the United States to the residents of Manitoba, and report their views and issues to the US Embassy in Ottawa and to Washington.

The Consulate serves a few basic functions:

  1. 1.  Explain and advance U.S. policy to the broadest possible audience in Manitoba.
  2. 2.  Reports to U.S. policymakers at the Embassy in Ottawa and in Washington about developments and opinions in Manitoba that affect the U.S.-Canada relationship.
  3. 3.  Work to advance bilateral trade and commercial activities, building strong relationships throughout the province with federal, provincial, and local government officials, as well as with a myriad of commercial interests, non-governmental organizations, service clubs, academia, artistic groups and others.

Issues the consulate has focused on in the past include cross-border water environmental disputes, BSE, and border security.
